JOB SUMMARY:

The Cloud Engineer is responsible for design, building, and operations of cloud services and infrastructure.  This role will bridge development and IT operations groups and oversee cloud environment operations.  They will be responsible for technical leadership in forming and building cloud architecture and infrastructure, developing processes, procedures and policies that meet cloud and business standards.  The role will look to employ tools and process to automate and provide oversight of the cloud.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Own, build, administer and maintain cloud development, production and business infrastructure and services.
  • Create and keep up to date monitoring, alerting and reporting for infrastructure and services.
  • Use automation tools and scripting to automate process of building and maintaining infrastructure and services.
  • Understand the SDLC and work with development team in aiding in the development and release processes.
  • Work closely with technical teams to understand business needs, develop technical roadmaps, and implement solutions.
  • Automate, develop, and perform software deployments for test environments for internally and externally developed software.
  • Be able to operate effectively, even when things are not clear, or the way forward is not immediately obvious
  • Be adept at learning quickly, applying insights from past efforts to new situations.
  • Thrive in a fast-paced, agile environment and communicate on a technical level to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Performs other duties and projects as assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
  • 1+ years of related experience including software installation and maintenance experience
  • 1+ years working on Cloud Service Provider (Azure preferred) related projects
  • Azure AZ 301 and/or AWS Solutions Architect certifications preferred
  • Experience with parameterized, Infrastructure-as-Code technologies (e.g. CloudFormation, CDK, Azure ARM, Terraform, Ansible)
  • Experience with serverless, container strategies and orchestration (Docker and Kubernetes)
  • Experience with automating and architecting continuous integration/continuous deployment environments (e.g. Gitlab, Github Actions, Jenkins)
  • Experience with event-driven and microservices architecture design patterns
  • Experience troubleshooting across compute, storage, networking, and apply best practices to determine optimal performance & cost
  • Experience in networking and sysadmin (Linux) fundamentals, including virtual networking in the cloud, VPNs, and zero-trust architecture
  • Experience configuring and using alerting & monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, VictorOps, CloudWatch, Stackdriver)
  • Experience with issue/problem tracking systems (e.g., Jira) in an agile software development environment
  • Experience with distributed source code repositories (e.g., Git)
  • Experience & understanding with blue/green deployment, A/B Testing
  • High School graduate/GED

Knowledge and Skills:
  • Excellent understanding of Azure & AWS cloud services, architecture, best practices
  • Excellent understanding of HTTP & web services cloud patterns and architectures (e.g., HTTP, state management, load balancing, DNS)
  • Solid understanding of the data security & privacy (PII/PHI) regulatory environment within the US
  • Solid ability to understand business requirements, envision a solution and/or determine the best path to a solution and see it to implementation
  • Ability to work with end users and other stake holders to obtain and refine requirements
  • Ability to train and support business users on provided solutions as necessary
  • Excellent planning, organization and problem identification skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and exercise good judgment with professional and technical fortitude
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to multi-task without losing focus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Comfortable with routine, repetitive tasks
